Pregnancy, hunger and exercise?
How much more should I be eating now that I’m pregnant? I’ve never really had much of an appetite and still don’t but I’ve read so many different things like how now I can eat for two or should I just be increasing my caloric intake by 300 a day?Since I’m not hungy at all should I be forcing myself? I’m confused and want this pregnancy to be healthy.
Also, I’ve never been real big on exercise, is it wrong to start now? I’m thinking easy walking and light yoga, nothing strenuous. How else can I make this a healthy pregnancy? I haven’t had my first check-up yet but it’s coming up next week so I thought I’d ask before I go in to see the doc. Please share your advice. Thanks!

How far along are you? If you’re in the first trimester, you don’t need to increase your caloric intake. The baby is only 2 1/2 inches long at the end of the 1st trimester and doesn’t need extra calories, just extra nutrients which you can get from prenatal vitamins, so don’t worry about cramming it in if you’re not hungry! It’s in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters that you need to up your caloric intake.
As far as exercise, I was an occasional exerciser before pregnancy, and now I exercise every day! I walk or do my pregnancy workout DVD (because some exercises aren’t safe while pregnant, but anything in a pregnancy workout would be!) for about 30 minutes a day, every day, and I’m loving it! I’m 20 weeks, and I have so much energy, and I’ve only gained 6 healthy pounds, no extra fat.
Eat healthily, take your vitamins, drink lots of water, and stay mobile, and you’ll enjoy your pregnancy. I know I am!
I am pregnant now and due in the next couple of weeks. So I remember these questions, but it really depends on how far along you are to whether or not to increase your eating. Just be sure to at least have 2 meals and a snack so that you are eating, but increasing your calories by 300 doesn’t need to be done until later in pregnancy when your baby is putting on layers of “fat”, until then eat like a normal person so you don’t gain too much weight. Believe me that is not fun.
As for the exercise, my doctor told me NOT to start anything that I wasn’t doing before. Light walking is okay for you or anyone, but yoga and such can put strain on your body. Even a little could cause something bad. That’s what I was told, so I am passing it on to you. Hope your check-up goes well.
i’m 27 weeks pregnant. i never had a big appetite before and i still don’t. i eat 1 normal meal and snack the rest of the time. for exercise i take walks cause i don’t really like to exercise either. good luck
Just eat how much you feel like eating- make it count though – eat healthy with lots of protein, veggies and fruits. I followed what my appetite told me to do and I was back to my pre-pregnancy size 4 clothes four months after the baby. I was an occasional excerciser before, during and after my pregnancy. Walking is considered safe throughout.
