Are there “safe” exercises during pregnancy?
What exercises or safe during pregnancy? I got a membership to my town’s local YMCA right around the time I found out I was pregnant. I haven’t got to use it because I didn’t know what was safe and what wasn’t. I would imagine most of it would be alright as long as I’m not putting any pressure on my belly? I would really like to use the treadmill.
A prenatal swimming class would be excellent if mine offered it! I’ll have to look into that when I get off work…thanks. I just feel like I have gained so much weight in such a little time period. I’d like to be happy with myself while I’m pregnant…and I’m not right now. I weighed 105 pre-pregnancy and am 5′4″. I currently weigh 125…I dunno if that’s ideal for 20 weeks but I feel HUGE!

Don’t get overheated and don’t put strain on your joints. The treadmill’s great.
treadmill is great, just don’t get over heated. The sationary bikes are also ok. Just remember to drink plenty of water, take brakes as needed and don’t overwork yourself.
We had just gotten a Y membership when I got pregnant with my first. I still did most of the machines in the fitness room (treadmill, weight machines, elliptical machine, bike, etc.). As long as you feel stable and don’t get overheated, you’ll be fine. As you get farther along in the pregnancy, you’ll want to be sure not to get your heart rate too high and that you’re not putting too much strain on your belly (like with crunches, etc.). If you haven’t been very active, take it very slow at first — for example, don’t start running on the treadmill if you’re not a runner.
One great activity during pregnancy is swimming and water aerobics. My YMCA offers a prenatal water aerobics class, and I loved it. I went once a week when I was pregnant with my first, and by my third, they were offering the class 2x per week. I went as often as I could, and I really did feel worse when I missed a class.
It’s great for you to stay active and healthy during your pregnancy. Congrats!
It is you just shouldn’t start a strenuous exercise routine at this point. You don’t want to do anything you would have difficulty with before you were pregnant. Not the time time to become a marathon runner. Heres a little info for you
There should be a trainer that works there that can recommend safe equipment for you to use. The treadmill is a great idea and light swimming would be ideal as well. Don’t be afraid to ask them, that’s what they get paid for!
